When SEO analysis cries wolf: missing titles, zero words, and fake indexing alarms

A good SEO queue should scare you about real problems. It should not send you into a panic because a custom field is empty while Rank Math already builds the title from %excerpt%, or because a theme left <main> blank while the article body is right there in the HTML.

Templates are not empty titles

Yoast, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress, and The SEO Framework often store templates, not final strings. An empty post meta field can still produce a solid title tag once %title%, %excerpt%, or the plugin’s defaults run.

If a tool only peeks at the raw custom field, it will scream “missing SEO title” on pages that already look fine in the browser. That burns time and trains people to ignore the queue.

Zero words is not always zero content

Full-page analysis downloads the public HTML. Some themes and builders leave an empty <main> landmark while the readable content lives in another wrapper. Counting only inside that empty landmark produced 0 words, which then skewed length and density scores.

7.4.5 looks past that trap and counts UTF-8 tokens from the real body content. After you update, re-run SEO review entire page on anything that looked absurdly short.

Search Console “unknown” is not always a fire

URL Inspection can return soft states such as INDEXING_STATE_UNSPECIFIED or “URL is unknown to Google.” Those are not the same as a clear fail, and treating them as high-severity indexing problems creates noise next to real noindex or blocked URLs.

Now:

• Vague or unknown states are not escalated into fake high-severity indexing crises
• Indexing is only marked OK when Google’s verdict is PASS
• Bulk analysis no longer wipes earlier GSC indexing findings when Inspection is deferred
• Rich-result warnings stay opportunities, not “Critical” severity

Indexability should come from your SEO plugin

Analysis used to lean toward “indexable” even when Yoast, Rank Math, or another supported plugin had the page set to noindex. 7.4.5 reads indexability from the active SEO plugin (or the page robots meta). The SEO Framework also correctly skips focus-keyword suggestions, since it has no native focus field.

Adapters for All in One SEO, Yoast term fields, The SEO Framework v5 term meta, and SEOPress empty noindex got matching fixes so the editor, Tools, and Possibilities stay aligned.

What to do after you update

3. Use Page overview on the admin bar when you want a fast, read-only check without opening the full editor
